Use case: P&ID to asset graph

From P&ID drawings to a reviewed plant graph with live values

Aditum Data reads P&IDs from PDF or scans (text, instrument tags and symbols) and proposes a link from each drawn tag to its time series. A person checks every proposal before it counts.

Facts checked

What can be imported?

P&IDs as PDF or scans, native DEXPI P&IDs, 3D models (AVEVA RVM with attributes, IFC) and spreadsheet tag registers.

A recognised drawing can be exported again as DEXPI XML or as GraphML and JSON.

What is the plant graph?

Tags, drawings, 3D objects and time series become one reviewed graph per organisation; each link shows how it was found and who approved it, and can be undone.

  • Naming rules (for example ISA-5.1 or KKS) place historian tags under site, unit and equipment after an admin approves a preview.
  • An approved rule turns OPC UA folders and MQTT topics into plant levels, and PI points can be placed on the graph.
  • Only instruments are ever approved automatically; everything else waits for a person.

What do engineers do with it?

Trace a line across all P&ID sheets of a site with live values, and see the same equipment in 3D.

  • The Plant view stitches the sheets together at their off-page connectors. A trace stops at any join nobody has confirmed.
  • 3D models show live values, temperature colouring and a 24-hour replay.
  • One click builds an equipment dashboard from the approved asset tree.

Questions

How accurate is the P&ID reading?

It depends on your drawings, so we measure it on yours during a pilot. That is why every proposal waits for a person, and only instruments are approved automatically.
