Comparison
Aditum Data vs Cognite Data Fusion
Cognite Data Fusion (CDF) is a broad industrial data and AI platform built around a knowledge graph of assets, with field-work apps such as InField. Aditum Data is narrower: it gets plant data connected, prepared and comparable across sites in minutes per source, with data health alerts and dashboards, and it can deliver into the platform you already run.
Wintershall Dea, a long-standing CDF customer, signed up to Aditum Data in 2023 to onboard more assets faster and increase the value of its CDF investment (press release).
Facts checked
Aditum Data and Cognite Data Fusion at a glance
CDF is a platform to model a whole industrial estate; Aditum Data is the fast, checked path from plant sources to numbers people use.
| Aditum Data | Cognite Data Fusion | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Industrial data pipelines and dashboards as a managed service: connect plant and business sources, prepare the data without code, deliver it to your platform or to live dashboards. | "An open, secure Industrial Data and AI platform." (Cognite) |
| Where it runs | Managed by Aditum Data in Frankfurt (EU); a small read-only edge connector at each site (Windows or Linux), outbound HTTPS on port 443 only. | SaaS on Microsoft Azure, AWS or Google Cloud; multi-tenant or dedicated clusters. (Cognite docs) |
| Plant connectivity | Edge connector for OPC UA, MQTT (Sparkplug B) and Modbus TCP; AVEVA PI (PI Web API) and GE Proficy; SQL databases, InfluxDB, warehouses, data lakes, Kafka, SAP OData and REST. See connectors. | "90+ ready-to-use extractors and connectors", including OPC UA, PI and PI AF, databases and SAP; custom extractors in Python or .NET. (Cognite, docs) |
| Historian | Not a historian. Reads your historian, or stores prepared data in the Aditum database (hosted PostgreSQL with TimescaleDB) or your own destination. | Time series are stored in the platform and trended in Charts. (Cognite docs) |
| Asset model and context | A reviewed plant graph per organisation: naming rules (ISA-5.1, KKS), OPC UA folders and MQTT topics become site, unit and equipment; P&IDs and 3D models link to time series after a person approves. | Data modelling to "create a structured knowledge graph of your industrial data, including assets, hierarchies, and equipment." (Cognite docs) |
| Calculations | f(x): no-code engineering calculations with unit checks on every step, nine equipment templates (LMTD, duty, OEE, specific energy and more), time-weighted averages. | Charts with "no-code calculations" and scheduled calculations saved as time series. (Cognite docs) |
| Data health and alerts | Incidents without setting up rules: failed runs, stale sources, stuck or silent tags, missed schedules, data received but not stored, offline connectors; email, Teams, Slack, webhooks, PagerDuty, Opsgenie. | Threshold monitoring jobs in Charts send emails; a failed extraction pipeline sends an email "if activated in setup". (docs, docs) |
| Dashboards | Live dashboards, including from a plain-language request that a person approves; every number traces to its source tags. | Charts for trends, plus Industrial Canvas and the InField app. (Cognite, InField docs) |
| AI | AI drafts pipelines, dashboards and formulas for approval; the platform calculates every number. Metadata only by default; an organisation can switch AI off. | Atlas AI agents over the CDF knowledge graph; "Atlas AI features require a separate license". (docs, docs) |
| How it is sold | Per organisation, never per seat: a free self-serve start, a pilot, then a site subscription. Prices on request. | Subscription; no public price page found. |

Where Cognite Data Fusion is the better choice
Cognite Data Fusion is ahead of Aditum Data in these areas today.
- Depth of the industrial knowledge graph and the data modelling service (Cognite docs).
- Field-work apps. InField gives field workers checklists, measurements and observations, offline on mobile (Cognite docs). Aditum Data has no equivalent.
- Choice of cloud. CDF runs on Azure, AWS or Google Cloud, with dedicated clusters on request (Cognite docs).
- Breadth of extractors for large energy estates, including WITSML and OSDU (Cognite docs).
Where Aditum Data is different
What Aditum Data adds for teams that need the same, trustworthy number from every site.
- Minutes per source. Configure each source in 5 to 7.5 minutes once access is in place.
- Data health without setup. Failed runs, stale sources, stuck tags and offline connectors open incidents and email the owner by default; a run counts only the rows the destination accepted.
- One KPI definition across sites, versioned, with each site mapping its own tags.
- Delivery anywhere. The same prepared data can go to Snowflake, Databricks, PostgreSQL, InfluxDB or Kafka.
- AI never calculates the numbers. Dashboard and pipeline drafts are approved by a person; the platform computes every value.
Can Aditum Data work with Cognite Data Fusion?
Yes. Aditum Data was used alongside CDF at Wintershall Dea (press release). For CDF users planning ahead: Cognite lists the classic Assets and Events APIs and asset-centric time series metadata as deprecated on 15 October 2026 and retired on 31 December 2027 (Cognite docs).
Questions
Does Aditum Data replace Cognite Data Fusion?
Not necessarily. Aditum Data can do the job from source to dashboard by itself, or prepare and deliver data while CDF stays your platform.
When do CDF's classic services retire?
Cognite's own deprecation page lists 31 December 2027 for the classic Assets API, Events API and asset-centric time series metadata (Cognite docs).
